You can also see the minor league baseball team, the Carolina Mudcats, play at Five County Stadium.
Experience Durham's history with a visit to Historic Stagville, which features the remains of North Carolina's biggest pre-Civil War plantation. The area used to be own by the Bennehan-Cameron family, and today the land consists of 71 acres across three tracts. You can also see the late 18th-century Bennehan House, a pre-Revolutionary War farmer's house and a timber-framed barn.
Catch a breath of fresh air as you walk around the Sarah P. Duke Gardens of the William B. Umstead State Park where you can fish, dine on a picnic, rent a canoe or stroll along the paths. Another wonderful green space is the Lake Johnson Nature Park that boasts 3.5 miles of nature trails winding around the eastern part of the lake, which is terrific for hiking and biking. You can also rent a paddle boat and take to the water.
