The Oklahoma History Center is only a short drive from the airport. This beautiful complex of buildings houses the many wonders of Oklahoma’s long history, both before and after it became an official state in the Union. While it is a short drive from Will Roger’s World Airport, it is well worth a visit. It offers a number of extraordinarily educational and family friendly fun, with both indoor and outdoor exhibits. While some of these exhibits do rotate on a schedule, many are permanent features of the museum. Visit the museums five main galleries and explore the more than 200 interactive audiovisual activities. As well, everyone is welcome to take the ¼ mile Red River Journey walking tour.

Sam Noble Museum

The Sam Noble Museum is just down the road in nearby Norman, Oklahoma. Here, you’ll find the University of Oklahoma’s Sam Noble Museum, which houses all things pertaining to science and culture. This is definitely worth seeing, and houses some of the most interesting, interactive, and informative exhibits about the world in which we live—from the arts of ancient cultures to sport and play, and explorations of the natural world. While it is a full scale museum, it also boasts some of the most complete research collections of anthropological or natural science subjects, such as paleontology, in the region. Also in Norman is the Moore-Lindsay Historical House Museum. This is a house museum that depicts the early stages of statehood for Oklahoma. With its distinctive Victorian architecture, furnishings that reflect the materials and styles of the time, and preserved grounds, it offers visitors a chance to experience what life during that period of history must have been like. This museum is funded by a committee of concerned citizens who wish to preserve the material evidence of history and changing lifeways in order to provide an accurate understanding of the context in which historical events take place.
