The Stockwood Discovery Centre

Offers a variety of gardens and galleries that visitors can explore when they are in Luton. There are five sections of gardens, including the Improvement Garden, the Period Gardens, the Sensory Garden, the World Gardens and the Medicinal Garden. The Improvement Garden features the work of artist Ian Hamilton Finlay. The centre also features a set of galleries that detail the history of Stockwood House. There is a Landscape and People Gallery, Discover Archaeology Gallery, Roman and Anglo Saxon Gallery, Medieval Gallery, and Rural Trades Gallery. There are also displays of carriages from throughout history.

Woodside Farm & Leisure Park

Gives families a chance to see and interact with a variety of animals. The park has farm animals, like goats, chickens, pigs, ponies, rabbits and donkeys. There are also tractor rides and trampolines available for outdoor fun. The park also offers “animal encounters,” where staff members present the animals and talk about them. The site also features an indoor play barn that offers a place for kids to play, as well as a place for parents to sit, have a cup of coffee or enjoy a meal.

The Wardown Park Museum

Offers visitors a look into the history of Luton. The museum is located in an historic Victorian house. It includes a variety of galleries, as well as some temporary exhibits during the year. The Threads of Life Gallery features textiles from the 1600s. The Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Regiment Gallery lets visitors explore the history of the regiment. It includes a variety of objects, as well as an interactive audio visual area. The Luton Life Gallery tells the stories of how the town came to be and the people who lived there. The gallery features many hands-on displays, including touch-screen computers. The museum also has a tea room that offers drinks and snacks, as well as a souvenir shop.

Big Space

Offers an indoor play area where parents can let their kids run free, or they can join in on the fun if they choose to. The play equipment is meant for children as old as 12, and there is also a separate soft play area for kids under three. There are wavy slides, ball pits and climbing walls, as well as an elevated football arena, computers and Playstations. There is also a coffee bar and lounge available for drinks and meals.

ZSL Whipsnade Zoo

Houses more than 2,500 animals on its 600 acre site. The zoo is known for creating exhibits that closely resemble the animals’ native habitats to give visitors a more realistic view of where the animals really live in the wild. Animal demonstrations and feedings also give visitors closer looks at the variety of animals in the zoo. Since the zoo covers such a large area, there is transportation offered that visits the main exhibits. Visitors can ride the Safari bus or one of two steam engines. There are a variety of food and drink choices available on site, as well.
