There is a lot on offer within 30 minutes of the Capital Region International (Lansing, MI) airport, whether Lansing is your ultimate destination or you have time between flights. If you do plan on staying get a great hotel near Lansing Airport.

To get an overview of the entire area, you might start with a stop right outside of the airport at the Greater Lansing Convention & Visitors Bureau, 500 East Michigan Avenue. You can receive friendly and knowledgeable advice from the staff and pick up brochures on area attractions.

If hiking and picnics strike your fancy, there is a host of parks within a very short distance of the airport; it’s like getting out into the country without leaving town. Parks nearby include Tecumseh, Grand Woods, Hunters Orchard, Hawks Meadow and Sharp, each with different amenities.

Impression 5 Science Center is an interactive play and exploration facility to make learning about science fun for the entire family. This hands-on learning site will let you use all five senses to gain a new understanding into life on the planet earth. There are exhibits that teach about machines, music, nature, light and color and much more. Impression 5 is in Lansing at 200 Museum Drive.

At the RE Olds Museum, you can witness and experience the history of the Oldsmobile Motor Company, one of America’s oldest car manufacturing concerns. The collection always has over fifty vintage cars on display, as well as a great deal of related memorabilia.

The Michigan Historical Museum offers a glimpse of Michigan’s history from prehistoric to modern times. A permanent exhibit on the third floor explores Michigan’s 20th century, spanning from the horseless carriage to the information age.

For the “animal in you” plan a stop a Potter Park Zoo, home to over 160 species of animals, many of which are endangered. The collection includes African big cats, reptiles, amphibians and birds of all kinds. Spanning over 20 acres and with 500 animals, there’s something at the zoo to delight visitors of all ages. The zoo is open seasonally, daily until 6 PM and is located at 1301 S. Pennsylvania Ave.

There’s no shortage of sporting attractions within an easy jaunt of the airport, whether you chose to participate or merely be a spectator.

Catch an exciting minor league baseball game by watching the Lansing Lugnuts at Cooley Law School Stadium. A Class A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays, the Lugnuts always offer exciting ball and a chance to see future stars of Major League Baseball.

Michigan’s premier destination for laser tag, glo-golf, and arcade action is the Zap Zone Fun Center, open until 10 PM weeknights and late on weekends.
