Airport Authority & History
The Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport is a small public airport that is run by the Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport Authority. The airport, which serves the greater Hamilton County area, was established in the early 1950s. The airport covers an area of 980 acres, and is equipped with two runways. The airport has one main passenger terminal. The 241st Engineering Installation Squadron was home to Chattanooga Metropolitan until 2010. Although the airport is small, it is equipped with a number of services and amenities that are normally found at much larger airport.
Amenities at Chattanooga Airport
The airport has a convenient business center were passengers can relax and unwind while awaiting their flights. Complementary bottled water and coffee is available, as well as workstations, WiFi service, and big screen televisions to keep abreast of the latest news. The information booth is staffed by a group of volunteers, who are there to assist passengers 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The booth provides city maps, brochures and information about the city. Chattanooga Metropolitan’s TDD terminals are staffed with volunteers to help elderly, ill, handicapped, pregnant, and child passengers. Wheelchairs are also available. Staffers are available 24 hours a day to make passenger’s flights as hassle free as possible. The airport takes special care to provide pets with a safe and comfortable flight. Chattanooga Metropolitan has a number of parking options available. Short and long term airport parking is available for passengers who wish to keep their vehicles at the airport. Off parking sites are available for passengers who opt to park elsewhere. The off parking sites have buses and shuttle vans that transport passengers safely to the airport and back. The stay and park option is available for passengers who stay in hotels. Some hotels offer free parking up to two weeks. All parking areas are monitored with 24 hour a day, 7 day a week security and guards who perform regular walk through.
Rental Cars & Shuttles
Rental car services are available from a number of companies including Hertz, Avis, Budget, National, Enterprise, and Thrifty/Dollar. The airport offers taxi or limousine service through Blue Ridge Limousine, Checker Cab, Mercury Cab, All American Limo and Taxi, Millennium Taxi, and Jackson Cab. Shuttle services are provided by Wingate Inn, Holiday Inn Choo Choo, O’Springs Hampton Inn, O’Springs Holiday Inn Express, and Millennium Transportation.
Chattanooga Metropolitan encourages passengers to take special precautions to ensure a safe and pleasant experience:
- arrive to the airport at least 30 minutes before your flight
- pack and dress to meet safety requirements
- make sure you do not pack prohibited items in your luggage, which may cause delays; understand security measures associated with food, beverages, guns and other objects
- when traveling with children, consider help needed with strollers, carriers, and booster seats
- consider issues regarding religious and cultural needs
- if you have disabilities and medical conditions, make sure the appropriate personnel is informed
- get acquainted with airport safety procedures in case a security emergency arises.
